High Waisted Pants

What is it with people wanting high waisted pants from the 1940s this week? I had these two patterns last week and three different people wanted them at the same time!

Simplicity 1971 and Simplicity 4279

To find original 1940s patterns to sew for your self - please check out my companies 1940s pants page!

I saw there was recent article in Daily Candy which recommends them as a sharp classic. Was there been a Katherine Hepburn memo that I missed?

Are we going back to the past, or just tired of hiking up our pants? Maybe it is the roomy legs we want, or do we all just want to be free like Kate?

I think it is hipster hangover! While I won't sew my own I am definitely tired of pants that hang below my not-sixteen-anymore belly.

Perhaps it's cuz it's NY Fashionweek ,and just about every designer is showing high waisted pants. Mostly in the form of widelegged pleated trousers.

it has been an upcoming "trend" since the fall 2006 shows...at my store in NYC we got a few styles of very high waisted skinny jeans in over the summer and they sold out to the piece in just a month. Diesel has a few styles out now for spring as well. High Waisted pants are more flattering on most women and I am so glad to see that the "trend" is back, maybe I will be able to actually find some in stores now!!

I say "High waisted pants - YES!" Hipsters make you look like a Daschund!

Women have waists and high-waisted pants show that off. Hipsters show off your love handles - no matter how small they may be!

Thank Gawd ! I am soooo tired of seeing 'girl lovehandles' and bellies hanging over jeans. Not to mention butt cracks every time someone bends over. They are flattering on models that don't move and anorexic preteens.

As a slender 50s-something woman who has maintined a flat tummy, is long-waisted and tall, I am SOOOO delighted to see high-waisted pants! I agree with everything said about the low-rise pants emphasizing the WORST of a woman's shape. In my 'day', men fell over if you were slender, leggy and feminine. H-W pants bring out the BEST in a curvy woman's shape.
